Monocular are simple telescopes which are only half of a pair of binoculars. With the use of lenses and prisms a monocular facilitates the user to view things which are located far away as if they are very near. The image seen through monoculars appear in their correct orientation through the use of two prisms, whereas in most telescopes the images are inverted.
Golfers, hikers and bird watchers like to carry a monocular since it is only half the weight and size of a binocular and much easier to pack. Those who have little room to stow prefer a monocular over a binocular.
Monoculars permits the use of only one eye to view the articles which causes some problems. The same problem is faced while using telescopes hence many people prefer binoculars instead of monoculars or telescopes.
Monoculars are preferred when it is necessary to view stationary objects. That’s the reason why astronomers prefer monoculars.
Various accounts exist about monoculars in ancient Arabia and in many of other parts of the world. Early recorded patents indicate that telescopic monoculars were made in 17th century. In those days monoculars were used in sports and as a defensive device during wars. A monocular was a perfect device to locate and identify riders from far off, and to determine from their banners or colour whether they are friend or foe.
Earliest documented history shows Hans Lippershey as the first telescope maker including both monocular and binocular variety even though he is not the first person to actually design and produce such a device.
Prices of modern day monoculars range from the most expensive to very cheap. Monoculars meant as a toy for children have magnifications of only three or four times and they are very cheap. Costlier monoculars with 30x or greater magnifications are made of better prisms and lenses.
Why is that strange helicopter circling overhead in the city area? What kind of bird is preparing to build a nest on the roof? Well, Monocular man might know the answers to these questions. Monocular men are those fascinated by technology and they are also commonly known as technology geeks.
Bresser, Cobra, Tasco, Nikon, Inpro Optics, WOW Stuff and Dot2Shop are some brands of Monoculars. Prices range from £12.65 for a Bresser to £1,848.63 for a Nikon night search monocular which carries some very powerful features.
Night vision Monoculars have an all glass lens system which works in combination with a light intensifier tube to give a sharp and bright image in any dark situation. The infrared illuminator normally comes as a built in accessory and it facilitates vision even in complete darkness.

Binoculars make everything clearer. Raise them to your eyes and you can see distance only imaginable. They are ideal for everything from sports arenas to concerts to beaches. Binoculars are now smaller and lighter than ever before. They are one of the most perfect travel accessories, allowing you to see distance clearly when you travel. There are many brands to choose from: Tasco, Bushnell, and Minolta among the few that come to mind. There are also many features available today. A few of the important ones to look for are coated optics to reduce light loss and glare. This will give you a brighter image with less eyestrain. Many binoculars also have soft or rubber fold-down eyecups so eyeglass wearers can see the entire field of view. Waterproof and fog proof binoculars are popular with the boating crowd. These models can withstand complete immersion in water and always stay dry inside. The interior optical surfaces also won’t fog due to rapid temperature change or humidity. Many of the waterproof models are air tight and dry-nitrogen sealed. Some are corrosion resistant and also buoyant. These should not be confused with water-repellent models, which just repel water from the lens. Optics should be fully coated for superior light transmission. Binocular straps are a comfortable and secure way to wear your binoculars. Some models also come with cases they can attach to a belt.
There are binoculars designed for bird watchers. These not only let you see distance, but also give you close up focus capability as close as seven feet. They are also ideal for insect identification. Binoculars are now smaller and lighter than the older models. They measure the weight of the newer models in ounces rather than pounds. They are perfect to pack along in your lightweight luggage. Whether you wish to focus on a mountain range in the United States, or a museum in Europe, binoculars are perfect for taking in the details. Hiking, fishing and hunting, they are designed for dependability. They are slimmer and much lighter due to in part magnesium. They are generally shockproof and rugged enough for any travel you have in mind. Binoculars are also available with compasses for hiking and wilderness travel. There are models with digital cameras built in. You can photograph a sports event, a children’s concert, or any special event.
Permanent focus binoculars are a feature that will not let anything pass you by. You simply have to raise them to your eyes and you can catch the action instantly with clarity. There is no adjustment necessary. They focus instantaneously at virtually any distance. This makes them perfect for sporting events, and nature observations. Even when gloves might hinder the use of standard focus binoculars, the permanent focus is readily available. Understanding how to read the magnification or power field is simple. The first number separated by an “x” is the power of the binocular. It means the object being viewed appears to be that number of times closer than you would see with an unaided eye. The second number after the “x” is the diameter of the objective or front lens. The larger the number is, the more light that enters the binocular and the brighter the image. Binoculars are the ideal choice for corporate gifts because they are generously received and appreciated by both men and women. Logos or initials can be placed not only on the binoculars themselves, but also on the carrying case.
Other terms to look for in your binocular purchase are the type of Len’s coating. Simple coated lenses are a single layer on at least one lens surface. Fully coated lens are a single layer on all air-to-glass surfaces. Multi-coated lenses are multiple layers on at least one lens surface. Fully multi-coated lens means multiple layers on all air-to-glass surfaces. Coated optics is the lens surface coating that reduces light loss and glare due to reflection for a brighter image. These give a higher contrast image, which results in less eyestrain. In order to determine the circle of light visible at the eyepiece of a binocular, divide the objective lens diameter by the power. (These are the two numbers on either side of the “x”.) An 8×32 model has an exit pupil visibility number of 4mm, and the larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image. Some binoculars utilize more coating layers on the prism of the binoculars for more light transmission. Higher quality glass also yields brighter images and sharpness. Binoculars give you a view so sharp and clear you’re completely immersed in a world outside yourself. When shopping for your discount luggage, make sure you look at the wide array of binoculars to provide clarity and make seeing believing.

Binoculars are no longer things which boring bird-watchers just sling around their necks waiting interminably to catch that elusive bird in flight. The binoculars today have evolved from merely enlarging distant images to being able to even capture those images and record and share them with family and friends. The meade travelview binoculars are particularly suited for travel and come in various models.
Some give pictures like from a 2.0 mega pixel camera and also lets you record videos on the binoculars. Popularly used for outdoor trips or concerts they are surprisingly very useful for industry purposes also as they provide that extra security feature. Some are specifically meant for nature-viewing and are ideal for beginners as well as experts.
The optical lenses are of very high-quality and give clear pictures and close focus. They also give good light in low-light conditions and are especially ideal when you require that extra half an hour at dawn or dusk to capture some moments from nature. The more advanced ones even have nitrogen removed from them thus making it virtually mist-proof also. For travel purposes these binoculars are the best.
While choosing binoculars you can opt for one which comes with an in-built digital camera. These pictures can then be downloaded on to the computer with special software and a USB port and can be cropped, resized or adjusted just like with any digital camera pictures. They also allow 1 or 2 minutes of video (very handy especially during bird-watching). These binoculars also come in compact sizes making it easier to carry them around.
For astronomers a telescope which has good quality optics is essential for gazing into the sky at night. Many mounts and filters are available together with the telescopes suiting all types of budgets and needs.
Compact binoculars are the answer to the prayers of those who would love to view distant objects at a closer range but who dread lugging around a heavy ton especially during travel. They are portable, handy and lightweight enough to be carried around with ease. A compact binocular is actually two small telescope linked together and each has a small objective lens, an exit pupil and an eyepiece. They generally come with rubber padding and can be folded into very small sizes.
